The software provides a solution of optimizing the cutting of different size bars from standard sized stocks. Optimization is for minimizing wastage.
1DNest is a efficient optimizer for the task of cutting materials provided in standard lengths, like bars, tubes, metallic profiles, extrusions, paper rolls, etc. The software can handle up to 1000 pieces to be cut and it allows 100 different cuts from lengths. There are no limits as to the quantity of each of these pieces. The interface is straightforward. Job code, project id and a description can be added. You specify the pieces you need and specify the measurements. There’s another table that lets you specify the source standard bars that you are going to use as the raw material. A third table specifies the cut allowance, bar end trims and what sizes should be recycled. Choice of units is with the user. The tool will compensate for the cutter/shear thickness too. Details of cut ends angle are taken into consideration.
The program algorithms can reach mathematical optimum solutions under default parameters conditions in the majority of cases. It uses mathematical as well as heuristically optimized. Parts to be cut can be assigned unique ids same as ids can be assigned to the stock material. Cutting details can be imported into the program in CSV format to make it easy to feed the data from Excel sheets. Data can be exported into spreadsheet too the same way. Printing of labels makes it easy to manage the profusion of parts created. If your operations involve lot of single dimensional cutting then this is a tool you could find to be useful. However, if you use a lot of other tools too then profusion of tools can be an issue. It is a good tool for the stated purpose.
